Dear Trinity Family,

Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

“Why do you eat with tax collectors and sinners?” That was the question that was asked by the Pharisees as they witnessed Jesus sitting at the table of Levi, son of Alpheaus, more commonly known as Matthew. The answer Jesus gives is that famous declaration where he states, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” (Matt 9:9-13; Mk 2:13-17; Luke 5:27-32)

I want you to think about that story found in the Gospel accounts this week as you prepare yourself for Holy Communion. The reason why is that our Lord still declares the need to be present at meals with sinners. Today though it is in the form of the Lord’s Supper, where Christ is no longer the guest, but, rather, the host. Christ comes to us in the Lord’s Supper and is truly present in the Sacrament, knowing that we need that special love and attention, that compassion that only he can offer to us. In it, through our faith in the body and blood of Christ, we receive grace, and, through that grace, the forgiveness of sins.

What a wonderful, amazing blessing that truly is! I pray that we all mediate on the wonderous mystery that is the Lord’s Supper and that we come before the altar this Sunday with contrite and hope-filled hearts to partake in the body of Christ given for you and the blood of Christ shed for you for the remission of sins.

As we look ahead to the coming week, I also pray that you and your family have a truly blessed Independence Day and that you remember the freedoms that we enjoy in this country. There are many places in the world where worship must occur in secret, and prayer behind locked doors, where our brothers and sisters in Christ are persecuted. We have been granted tremendous liberty in this country to glorify and praise our God and live our faith. May we always value and cherish the sacrifices made to secure that freedom for us.

May the peace of the Lord that transcends all understanding keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus even unto life everlasting.

In Him,

Pastor Wyatt
